MOKENA, Ill. — Drivers are facing some backups early Thursday morning after a crash along I-80 in the southwest suburbs.

According to Illinois State police troopers, the crash unfolded just after 5:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-80, near Wolf Road, at milepost 144 in Mokena.

Troopers say an initial investigation indicates that a driver struck a deer along the roadway before their car was then struck by four other vehicles.

The driver of the car that struck the deer was injured in the crash and later hospitalized. It is unclear if anyone else was injured.

Officials say because of the crash, crews have shut down all eastbound lanes of I-80 at Wold Road.

It is unclear how long the closures will last.
