‘Bods and Hornets preparing for another Turnpike Tussle

TOPEKA (KSNT) – In less than 24 hours round two of the Turnpike Tussle will take place at Whiting Fieldhouse.

The No. 2 Washburn Ichabods will host the No. 24 Emporia State Hornets in what will be a matchup between the two top teams in the MIAA conference. Both squads are 8-1 in conference play and are on a multiple game win streak.

“I’m just excited,” said ESU head coach Ken Murczek. “You know who would of though at this point in the season Emporia State and the friends up the road would both be sitting at 8-1 and playing for first place.”

The Hornets coming off of two wins last week, including a ranked win over No. 24 Central Missouri last week.

“They are really good team,” Washburn head coach Chris Herron said. “They are one of the most athletic teams in our conference.”

For the ‘Bods they are holding strong on a seven game win streak, also defeating the ranked Mules last week.

“We are going to need to be better than the last time we played them,” Murczek said. “There’s a reason why they are leading the league in kills per set and all these things cause they are offensive.”

Turnpike Tussle is set for 6 p.m. on Friday.
