Weather will impact Orionid meteor shower peak

The annual Orionid meteor shower will peak tonight, but Central California residents will have to contend with the clouds.

There is a new moon tonight, which helps the visibility of meteor showers. In an area with a dark sky and no clouds, up to 20 meteors may be visible.

However, clouds are increasing Tuesday evening, and isolated showers are possible overnight. This will prevent sky viewers from seeing the meteors.

Conditions will improve for Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, giving everyone a better chance to catch the meteor shower. For those who head outside to try to catch the show, lay down, point your feet to the southeast, and look up.
