VERMILION PARISH, La. (
KLFY) — The Vermilion Parish School Board hosted its annual College and Career Fair today, offering students from five different high schools across the parish an opportunity to explore a wide range of post-graduation options.
Held at Kaplan High School, the event brought together over 40 colleges, technical schools and local businesses.
More than 1,000 students attended the fair, engaging directly with representatives from higher education institutions, the military, trade schools and various employers.
The event aimed to provide students with direct access to professionals and educators, giving them the opportunity to ask questions and gather firsthand information about different career paths.
“This event offers our students a hands-on opportunity,” said Brandy Broussard, High School Curriculum Supervisor for the Vermilion Parish School Board. “They walk into the career fair, and they can expect colleges, technical schools and the workforce in full force, to give them opportunities to ask questions.”
School officials emphasized that the goal of the event is to empower students to take proactive steps toward building their futures and to connect them with opportunities that align with their interests and aspirations.
According to Broussard, many students enter the event uncertain about their futures.
“When they walk in the door, I hear many of them say, ‘I’m not sure what I am going to do next.’ So, this offers them an opportunity to speak to people who are doing these things on a day-to-day basis,” she said.
