Panthers sign veteran quarterback to practice squad following injury to Bryce Young

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CAROLINA SPORTS LIVE) — The Panthers signed a quarterback to their practice squad Tuesday following the injury to starter Bryce Young Sunday. 

Carolina added 30-year-old Mike White and outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon, the team reported. White has appeared in 15 games during his career, having spent time with the Cowboys, Jets, Dolphins, Bills and this year, on the Bengals’ practice squad.

White joins Greensboro native Hendon Hooker on the practice squad, offering depth behind Andy Dalton in practice this week ahead of their matchup against the Bills. The 6-foot-5 White was drafted in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft after playing collegiately for South Florida and Western Kentucky.

White’s most productive season came with the Jets in 2022, when he threw for 1,192 yards and three touchdowns across four starts.

The team says Young is day-to-day with an ankle injury he sustained late in the win against the Jets. 

The 27-year-old Moon, originally an undrafted free agent from Florida, has appeared in 21 games with two starts during his time with the Ravens and Steelers. 

To make room for them on the practice squad, the team released cornerback Keion Crossen and rookie tackle Michael Tarquin. 

Depth chart moves

After linebacker Patrick Jones II was placed on injured reserve, rookie Nic Scourton has moved into the first-team OLB spot opposite veteran D.J. Wonnum. Fellow rookie Princely Umanmielen is now behind Wonnum, and Thomas Incoom is backing up Scourton.

Wide receiver Jalen Coker returned from quad injury against the Jets, and is now back as a starter on the depth chart, with veteran Hunter Renfrow moving into the second spot. Brycen Tremayne, who had been backing up Renfrow, will now be behind rookie Tetairoa McMillan.
