WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — An Ivins man is facing over a dozen felony charges after allegedly possessing multiple firearms and substantial quantities of cocaine and THC marijuana.
Kyle Preston Tanner, 40, has been charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute a substance as a second-degree felony and one count of possession with intent to distribute a substance as a third-degree felony.
He has also been charged with fifteen counts of prohibited dangerous weapon conduct with a firearm as a category II restricted person, which is a third-degree felony, and one count of use or possession of drug paraphernalia, which is a Class B Misdemeanor.
According to Utah State Code 76-11-306, a category II restricted person is someone who participates in prohibited dangerous weapon conduct while being in possession of a schedule I or schedule II-controlled substance.
On October 17, 2025, officers with the Washington County Drug Task Force (WCDTF) executed a search warrant at Tanner’s residence in Ivins, Utah. The warrant gave them permission to search the residence, both of Tanner’s vehicles and Tanner’s person.
Prior to the search warrant being executed, a detective with WCDTF was also observing residence and observed Tanner and his two children leave the area in his GMC Yukon.
Officers with the Santa Clara Ivins Police Department (SCIPD) initiated a traffic stop on Tanner and searched the vehicle. During this, officers reportedly found a tightly rolled $1 bill with a white, powdery substance on it suspected to be cocaine.
They also found a Ziplock bag inside a brown paper bag with what they believed to be marijuana and a .22 caliber rifle inside the vehicle. On Tanner’s person, SCIPD officers found a THC marijuana electronic vape.
Reportedly, the marijuana was in an area that was accessible to his two children, who are both under the age of ten.
A WCDTF detective was dispatched to the traffic stop as well. According to court documents, the detective located a wallet with $3000 in cash and a UT driver’s license for Kyle Tanner on scene and advised him of his rights.
At Tanner’s residence, detectives located a total of 15 firearms throughout the home. They also reportedly found two scales, empty bags, and a large quantity of different THC products like the concentrated “dab” form, in addition two large glass jars with a “large quantity of marijuana in them.”
Detectives also found multiple locked safes in the garage. In one of those safes, they found approximately one-half pound of a substance that tested presumptively positive for cocaine in a field test.
Additionally, they found a large amount of psilocybin mushrooms in a locked container, a handgun next to the cocaine, and multiple glass containers used to smoke marijuana.
Law enforcement stated that raw marijuana and multiple glass pipes were in an area where Tanner’s kids could have located it. Tanner was initially arrested on one count of endangerment of a child or vulnerable adult in addition to the other crimes, but he was not charged for child endangerment.
Tanner allegedly admitted to owning the cocaine and that he bought 340 grams in San Diego. However, he stated he does not sell cocaine, and that he typically uses a gram at a time.
According to WCDTF, a typical cocaine user only has between 1-3 grams of cocaine at a time and that the amount of cocaine found in tanner’s home is more indicative of a cocaine seller. Additionally, law enforcement stated that the amount of psilocybin mushrooms found in the residence is approximately double of the amount held by typical users.
Tanner also allegedly admitted to owning the marijuana and stated that he used to sell it but no longer does. He admitted to smoking it and does not have a legal marijuana card.
Tanner was booked into the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on October 17 but was released after posting bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on December 15, 2025.
