Indiana mansion known owned by former Pizza Hut magnate goes on sale for $6.75M

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — It’s one of Fort Wayne’s most famous homes and Thursday, The Hamilton, once the home of Pizza Hut magnate Dick Freeland, will go on the real estate market for $6.75 million.

The 40-acre gated estate is located at the northeast corner of Liberty Mills Road and West Hamilton Road in southwest Allen County.

Noll Reserve, the luxury division of Noll Team Real Estate, in a press release issued Wednesday morning, calls the property one of “Indiana’s most architecturally significant residences and the crown jewel of northeast Indiana’s luxury real estate portfolio.”

The home took five years to build and was completed in 1997. According to Noll Reserve, the home features eight bedrooms, nine full baths, six half baths, and nine fireplaces and over 5,000 square feet of outdoor terrace space. Luxury touches include hand-laid New York granite and a Vermont slate roof as well as Italian pillowed marble, white oak Palace of Versailles patterned floors, and hand-milled arched doorways.

Dick Freeland passed away in October of 2013 and owned dozens of Pizza Hut restaurants in Indiana and Ohio.  He also owned several Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants.

Other features of the home include a two-story library, a chef’s kitchen with concealed walk-in refrigerator, a 3,500-square-foot primary suite with dual dressing rooms, and a temperature-controlled wine cellar finished in European “slathered mortar.” Hidden doors, pearled paint finishes, and bespoke ironwork can be found throughout, along with three laundry rooms and new carpets.

Outside, a hand-laid stone drive leads to manicured gardens, antique lanterns, and a custom greenhouse imported from England. Waterside terraces, a gazebo with wet bar, and a 7-acre lake create resort-like tranquility according to the press release, while geothermal loops beneath the pond add sustainable efficiency.

The estate also includes a European-style stable, once home to Arabian horses, crafted with the same level of care as the main residence. Featuring heated and cooled stalls, custom millwork, a wood-burning fireplace, and a full kitchen. The stable’s upstairs caretaker’s quarters include a bath and sleeping area — ideal for equestrian living or adaptive use as a collector’s gallery or event space.
