According to BPD, officers responded to a Shell gas station located at 1447 E. Main St. around 1:46 p.m. to conduct an investigation related to a stolen U-Haul truck. When police arrived at the scene, they located a person they believed to be the suspect at the center of the investigation.

Two BPD officers attempted to keep the driver from leaving the Shell gas station. The suspect, however, hopped into the allegedly stolen U-Haul truck at the gas station and attempted to flee.

At that time, BPD officers became involved in a police chase with the suspect and the U-Haul. Police confirmed that, on at least two occasions during the chase, the driver swerved into oncoming traffic. The suspect also drove on a bike trail near IU West Hospital as he attempted to evade officers.

Near Girls School Road, the suspect’s vehicle jumped the median and struck another car. BPD indicated that it completed a report on that crash.

The suspect kept driving after striking the Kia and eventually hit Interstate 465. At that time, BPD officers terminated the pursuit
