Transphobic stickers and pamphlets found in San Francisco bookstore

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A bookstore in San Francisco’s Noe Valley neighborhood has been targeted with transphobic messages. According to signage posted outside the bookstore, an unknown individual has been placing transphobic stickers and pamphlets inside Noe Valley Books.

The stickers and pamphlets were placed inside an unspecified number of books inside the store.

“We take this very seriously and are looking for the person responsible. Transphobia or hate of any kind is not acceptable here,” Noe Valley Books wrote in part of a letter posted on its front window. “If you see any of these stickers or pamphlets, please let us know immediately.”

Noe Valley Books has a transgender flag displayed on the side of its front window. The business has publicly stated its support for the queer community, according to multiple social media posts.

The bookstore was founded in 2024 by Katerina Argyres, Isaiah Scandrette, Andrew McIntyre, and Kit Fitzgerald.

According to its website, Noe Valley Books’ values include that “All books, all ideas, all stories should be accessible” and “Diversity in literature is as essential as the sun.”

Noe Valley Books is located at 3975 24th St. The bookstore is open Sunday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
