Authorities said the incident began Friday, Oct. 17, when an officer conducted a traffic stop on an older model GMC Envoy with a Florida license plate (FFL U40). During the stop, a male suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot, reportedly carrying what appeared to be a handgun.
As the officer pursued the suspect, a female passenger drove away from the scene before backup units arrived. Police released surveillance photos of the male suspect, describing him as wearing a blue shirt, jeans, white sneakers and a hat with a Dr Pepper logo, and warned the public that he might be armed and dangerous.
Following several days of investigation and public assistance, Oakdale Police announced that both suspects were captured on Oct. 20 in Vernon Parish with help from the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department and the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit.
The suspects were identified as Jaylen M. Torres, 20, and Isabell Lea Carpenter, 18.
Oakdale Police thanked the public for providing information that helped close the case.
