Milestones announced for temples in Belgium, Samoa, Texas, and Oklahoma

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced a groundbreaking date for the Brussels Belgium Temple, as well as renderings for three other temples: Savai’i Samoa Temple, Houston Texas South Temple, and Tulsa Oklahoma Temple.

Brussels Belgium Temple

Groundbreaking services for the Brussels Belgium Temple will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025. Elder Jack N. Gerard, First Counselor in the Europe Central Area Presidency, will preside at the event, according to the church. The event will reportedly include a short program and a dedicatory prayer.

“No soil will be turned since the new temple will be built within an existing building at Ave des Arts 52, Brussels, Belgium,” the church said in a release on Monday. “Plans call for a multistory temple of approximately 25,500 square feet, a meetinghouse and arrival facilities.”

Church President Russell M. Nelson announced this temple during the April 2021 general conference. While the LDS community in Belgium has grown to nearly 7,000 members in 12 congregations, the Brussels Belgium Temple will be the church’s first temple in the country.

Savai’i Samoa Temple

As announced, the Savai’i Samoa Temple will be built on a 4.6-acre site located in Salelologa, Samoa. This temple will be single-story, sized at approximately 29,630 square feet. A patron housing, ancillary building, distribution center, and temple president’s residence will also be built, according to the church.

“Samoa is home to nearly 90,000 Latter-day Saints in over 165 congregations,” a release from the church states. “The Savai’i Samoa Temple will be the second house of the Lord in the country. In 1983, a temple was dedicated in Apia, Samoa. After a fire in 2003, the Apia temple was rebuilt and rededicated.”

President Nelson announced the Savai’i Samoa Temple in Oct. 2023.

Houston Texas South Temple

The Houston Texas South Temple will be built on a 15.7-acre site along Fort Bend Parkway, just north of Sienna Parkway, Missouri City, Texas, according to the church. Similarly to the Savai’i Samoa Temple, this temple will also be single-story, sized at approximately 46,000 square feet. It will also include a meetinghouse and an accompanying ancillary building, the church said.

“Texas is home to more than 390,000 Latter-day Saints in over 750 congregations,” a church news release states. “Besides the Houston Texas South Temple, nine additional temples are announced, under construction or in operation in Texas in Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fairview, Fort Worth, Houston, Lubbock, McAllen and San Antonio.”

President Nelson announced this temple during the April 2024 general conference.

Tulsa Oklahoma Temple

The Tulsa Oklahoma Temple will also be a single-story building, sized at approximately 29,600 square feet. The temple will be located on a 25.7-acre site at the northwest corner of 51st St. and 136th E Avenue, Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma.

“Oklahoma is home to over 50,000 members in almost 100 congregations,” a release from the church states. “The Tulsa Temple joins the Oklahoma City Temple, which was rededicated in 2019.”

The Tulsa Temple was first announced by President Nelson in the Oct. 2023 general conference.
