IMTT stores liquids for chemical and petroleum companies. It’s requesting approval to add 26 tanks. Opponents say the liquids smell. They think the best shot they have to stop the expansion is to stop the company from renewing its air permit.
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality hosted a public meeting to discuss the permit and the neighbor’s concerns. IMTT was also there to answer questions.
Carlin Conner, CEO of IMTT, said they currently emit eight times less than their allowable limits. He said they will go in with a permit to further reduce volatile organic compounds.
The air permits must be renewed every five years. The permit renewal was neither approved nor denied.
