Hillsboro police seek tips after deadly motorcycle crash

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Hillsboro police are seeking tips after a motorcyclist died in a crash along Highway 26 on Monday.

Officers responded to the crash on westbound Highway 26 between Southeast Cornelius Pass Road and Northwest 185th Avenue involving a motorcycle and several vehicles.

On the scene, officers found the motorcyclist, identified as 20-year-old Carlos Andres Marquez-Vargas of Forest Grove, dead on the scene.

Hillsboro Police Department believes Marquez-Vargas rear-ended a vehicle, causing him to lose control and become separated from his motorcycle before he was struck by two other vehicles.

Authorities said the involved drivers stayed on the scene and are cooperating with the investigation.

HPD said speed is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash.

Westbound Highway 26 was shut down for about six hours during the investigation, police said, noting the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed or has information on the crash is asked to contact the Hillsboro Police Department.
