AUSTIN (KXAN) — As a way to observe Unplug Texas Day, Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has shared ways Texans can participate by unplugging in various ways from their devices.

Oct. 21 was designated as Unplug Texas Day by the 89th Texas Legislature “to highlight the importance of taking breaks from digital technology and engaging in more direct, personal experiences that support social connections and well-being.”

Texas Sen. Adam Hinojosa, R-Corpus Christi, authored the bill, Senate Bill 2232. He said he did this because “sometimes the best way to recharge is to disconnect.”

“Our mental and physical health both benefit when we step away from screens and spend time with our families and communities. Unplug Texas Day encourages Texans to put down their phones, be present and focus on what truly matters. By doing so, we strengthen ourselves and the communities that make our state so special.”
