According to court documents, Charles May has been preliminarily charged with the following:
- Two counts of Child Molesting (Level 4 Felony)
- Child Solicitation (Level 5 Felony)
- Sexual Misconduct with a Minor (Level 5 Felony)
- Performing Sexual Conduct in the presence of a Minor (Level 6 Felony)
- Displaying Matter Harmful to Minors (Level 6 Felony)
- Intimidation (Level 6 Felony)
- Distribution of an intimate Image (Class A Misdemeanor)
Police began investigating May on July 15 when a representative with the Owen County Department of Child Services filed a report with Indiana State Police. The report included allegations from a juvenile that May had shown her a video showing him performing sex acts.
Throughout their investigation, police uncovered evidence that May inappropriately touched the underage victim on multiple occasions at a home in the town of Spencer. The victim disclosed during a set of forensic interviews that they also witnessed May masturbating numerous times.
Court documents show that May forced the victim to share the video containing sexual content with a friend.
Another underage victim disclosed to investigators that she would visit May’s home with friends, where they would regularly play hide and seek. The victim said May would make her touch him inappropriately during this game and would ask her to help him change his clothes. The victim advised her not to tell anyone, or he would “have to beat her.”
On Oct. 16, Owen County Prosecutor Benjamin Kim filed the eight felony counts against May. An Initial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 23 in Owen Circuit Court.
