Committee members to review Louisiana school PE standards named

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Committee members were named as Louisiana plans to review and update K-12 physical education standards.

The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) announced the following as review committee members.

“These committee members bring the passion and expertise we need to ensure Louisiana students gain the knowledge and skills for a successful and physically-fit life,” said Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley.

The last standards review was done in 2017, and they are updated every seven years.

What’s next?

According to LDOE, committee meetings are set to start in October in Baton Rouge. The public is welcome to attend meetings.

A timeline outlines that standards will be posted for public comment in February to March before they are presented to the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education in June. Teachers would be trained on the approved standards in the 2026-27 school year.
