Cassie Lunsford, assistant principal of Burlington Elementary School in the South Point Local Schools district, agreed to kiss a pig if the students earned 2,000 Accelerated Reading points. They shattered that goal by earning more than 2,600 points!
Because of their achievement, Lunsford held up her end of the bargain Tuesday by applying some lipstick and giving a pig a kiss on its cheek.
“I am more than thrilled to hold up my end of the promise by kissing the pig,” Lunsford said. “Our students are always up for a challenge, and I find that any time kids are challenged, they rise to the occasion every single time.”
She wasn’t the only faculty member to show some love to the animal. Other members of the staff, including the student resource officer, lined up to give the pig a quick kiss!
“It’s all about motivating our students and instilling a love for learning, making learning fun, and I cannot wait to see what they accomplish next!” Lunsford said.
Officials with the elementary school say reading among the kids is up more than 60% compared to last year!
