Brandy explains why she abruptly left United Center stage during show, leaving Monica to perform alone

CHICAGO (WGN) — R&B legend Brandy has responded on social media after she abruptly walked off the United Center stage Saturday night during a “The Boy is Mine Tour” show, leaving Monica to close the show by herself.

In a Facebook post Sunday addressed “to my Dear Fans in Chicago,” Brandy apologized and explained that she experienced dehydration and felt like she was going to faint during Saturday’s show in Chicago.

According to TMZ, Brandy stopped mid-song then said, “Give me one second, y’all, I gotta get my …,” before walking backstage.

TMZ reports Brandy didn’t return following several minutes, after which Monica finished the show, concluding with the duo’s 1998 hit, “The Boy is Mine.”

Brandy issued the following statement Sunday:

“To my Dear Fans in Chicago,

Thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and — most importantly — your prayers.

“I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint, everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.

“I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling OK. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts.

“I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism and the entire crew for their continued care and support.

“I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby and have taken the proper precautions to help moving forward. Your understanding, patience, and unwavering belief mean the world to me.

I look forward to returning to the stage — stronger and more grateful than ever — alongside my girl, Monica, (Sunday) night in Indianapolis.

With all my love,

Brandy

According to US Weekly, Brandy returned to the stage Sunday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and performed her entire set with Monica. The duo’s “The Boy is Mine Tour” started on Thursday in Cincinnati.

Brandy and Monica released “The Boy Is Mine” as the lead single from Brandy’s 1998 album “Never Say Never” and Monica’s 1998 album “The Boy Is Mine.” The song quickly went to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also won a Grammy in 1999 for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group.

In addition to “The Boy Is Mine,” Brandy and Monica also collaborated on the 2012 song “It All Belongs to Me.”
