In a synopsis, the New Orleans Film Festival describes it as “This film is a raw, atmospheric portrait of ambition, friendship, and the fragile power of yearning—for connection, control, and something greater than themselves.”
“West of Greatness: The Story of the Westwego Muscle Boys” will show at the New Orleans Film Festival on Friday, Oct. 24, at 7:45 p.m. at The Prytania Theatre and then again on Monday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. at The Broad Theater.
Bounce artist Big Freedia is even taking part in the festivities surrounding the film.
Interim Executive Director of the New Orleans Film Society, Dodd Loomis said, “We have Big Freedia who’s going to be hosting an amateur bodybuilding contest in the Contemporary Arts Center, to tie in with one of our movies, ‘West of Greatness.’ The film is going to open at the Prytania and then all the bodybuilders are going to come to the CAC and have a pose off.”
The pose off is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24, at the Contemporary Arts Center after the showing of “West of Greatness.”
The New Orleans Film Festival runs from Oct. 23 through Oct. 27 at various theaters and locations around New Orleans.
