Beloved Abilene bakery back in business soon
McKay’s Bakery is going to now be called Moli McKay’s Bakery Café and will be located at 2534 S. 7th Street, which is the old Natural Foods building.
The social media post announcing the reopening says this McKay’s will be the “same heart, fresh chapter”. The owners say they plan to bring back, “the beloved McKay’s recipes you know and love—thumbprints and harvest muffins included (daily, of course!)—plus a few new favorites to surprise you.”
Customers are already celebrating the return, expressing excitement for the chance to get their favorites and tagging all of their friends on social media.
Cheryl Sawyers says she would, “come back to Abilene just for a box of thumb print cookies!!!”
“This is the best news I’ve heard all day – it’s only 7:30am, but I’m pretty sure it’ll take the cake!” Facebook user John Anderson said.
An exact opening date hasn’t been disclosed. The bakery is currently hiring for the following positions as they prepare to serve the public once again:
Anyone interested in working for McKay’s is asked to send a resume to apply@molimckays.com.
McKay’s closed their downtown location in July 2023 due to short staffing. Before closing, they had been a mainstay in Abilene for more than 30 years.
