OGDEN, Utah (ABC4) — A 16-year-old has been charged as an adult in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old girl in Ogden, documents say.

Hezekiah Plummer, 16, of Clearfield, has been charged with murder, obstruction of justice, theft of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor.

According to court documents, on Saturday, Oct. 18, just before 3 a.m., the Ogden Police Department responded to reports of a gunshot wound near 3600 Jackson Avenue. When they arrived, they discovered a 15-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her head. The victim was determined to be deceased at the scene.

A witness living in the residence told police that he was sleeping upstairs when he woke up to “several gunshots.” One of the gunshot sounded very close, and he ran to check on his children. After ensuring they were safe, the witness began going downstairs when he allegedly bumped into Plummer.

The witness stated that he saw Plummer carrying a firearm, and that Plummer said something about a “robbery,” claiming someone tried to rob him. After seeing Plummer, the witness went downstairs and police say that Plummer “fled the residence.” The witness discovered the 15-year-old victim and contacted the police.

Shortly after police arrived, the victim’s mother came home and stated that Plummer had been in the home with the victim when she left for work around 2:40 a.m. The victim’s mother claimed that Plummer had arrived around 1 a.m., asking to come in because he had nowhere to stay.

Plummer was allowed into the home, and the victim’s mother went back to sleep before work. She alleged that Plummer woke her up once by entering her room.

A few weeks ago, the victim’s mother had purchased a Glock firearm that was stored in her own bedroom. After the shooting, the box for the gun was instead located in the 15-year-old’s bedroom, and her mother said it should not have been there.

Investigators located a single casing in the hallway outside of the victim’s bedroom. Outside the residence and on the street, seven casings were recovered. The brick facade of the residence had “two possible bullet strikes.”

An autopsy on the 15-year-old victim revealed that the gunshot wound was sustained at close range. Documents indicate that Plummer and the victim were boyfriend and girlfriend, and he had stayed with her and her family for “substantial periods of time” before.

Plummer was later located in Davis County and taken into custody. On his person, law enforcement allegedly located several ounces of marijuana and over $4,000 in cash. The firearm police believe was used has not been located.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
