Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office awarded $141k grant for DUI enforcement

ATLANTA (WRBL) — The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office is one of 26 law enforcement agencies in Georgia that will receive a grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).

The sheriff’s office will receive a Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T) grant in the amount of $141,679.01 for FY2026.

According to the GOHS, the grants are intended to fund specialized traffic units in Muscogee County. The program was designed to help target counties throughout the state that have high rates of traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities.

“Crash data shows enforcement and education of traffic laws are two of most effective countermeasures to help our state and nation reduce crashes and eliminate deaths and serious injuries on our roads,” said Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “Each life saved on our roads is one less family that will have to live with the pain of losing a loved one whose life was taken from them in a traffic crash that was completely preventable.”

The H.E.A.T. program will educate the public about traffic safety, the dangers of driving under the influence and increasing seat belt use. As law enforcement partners in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI campaign and the Click It Or Ticket seatbelt campaigns, the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office will also conduct mobilizations throughout the year in coordination with the
GOHS.

“The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office will continue to do our part to ensure we help to reduce vehicle accidents involving impaired drivers with our HEAT Units. Our citizens can enjoy a better quality of life when we remove impaired drivers from our roadways. The goal is to have safer roadways for all Georgians to travel with their families to their destination.” said Sheriff Greg Countryman.
