CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The chess community is mourning the unexpected passing of Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky, who died at the age of 29.

Naroditsky was known as a prominent chess player, commentator, and educator who inspired fans through his games, videos and teaching.

The Naroditsky family shared the news in a statement released through the Charlotte Chess Center, where Daniel had been a leading figure since moving to Charlotte in 2020.

“It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Daniel Naroditsky,” the family wrote. “Daniel was a talented chess player, commentator, and educator, and a cherished member of the chess community, admired and respected by fans and players around the world. He was also a loving son and brother, and a loyal friend to many. We ask for privacy for Daniel’s family during this extremely difficult time. Let us remember Daniel for his passion and love for the game of chess, and for the joy and inspiration he brought to us all every day.”

The Charlotte Chess Center called him a “talented chess player, educator, and beloved member of the chess community.”

The Naroditsky family is asking for privacy during this difficult time.
