1 dead, 1 in custody after Alabama shooting
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire at the mobile home park, where a 34-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, Anthony Levi Hodge, of Smiths Station, was pronounced dead at 7:35 p.m. CT Sunday at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital from an apparent gunshot wound, according to Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton.
Hodge’s body will be transported by the Lee County Coroner’s Office to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences laboratory in Montgomery for a postmortem examination.
Shortly after the shooting, deputies located a second scene near Terry’s Grocery. A heavy law enforcement presence surrounded a white pickup truck in the store’s parking lot, and a person of interest was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators believe the two scenes are connected and said there is no ongoing threat to the public. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651.
