Ragin Cajun parade highlights student creativity despite rain

LAFAYETTE, LA. (KLFY) — The Ragin Cajun Homecoming, a tradition over 125 years old, culminated in a vibrant parade featuring student-created floats despite the rain.

Skylar Ortega, Tri Sigma’s Vice President, explained how throughout the week, student organizations participated in various events and dedicated significant time to crafting their unique floats to bring in the homecoming spirit.

“I know one of our chapter members has over 170 hours just spent on pomping and gluing,” Ortega said.

The Ragin Cajun 2025 Homecoming King, Sean Meyers, shared how impactful the homecoming spirit is to the student body and Lafayette residents.

“It’s just an amazing experience. It’s great to see all the energy that the student body is bringing, the community is bringing. It’s just a phenomenal experience.” Meyers

Rain or shine, people lined up along Reinhart Drive ready to celebrate the parade and support the student body as they showcased their floats which made their way to the judges’ table. The 2025 Homecoming King and Queen, Sean Myers and Ava Welborn, expressed excitement about the event and the upcoming game.

“Me and Sean normally make the trek out to the USM game when they play the away games, so I’m really excited to have them at home,” Welborn said.

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns hosted the USM Golden Eagles at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium, adding to the excitement of the homecoming festivities. The Ragin Cajun Homecoming not only celebrated a longstanding tradition but also brought together students and the community to display of creativity and school spirit.
