(KRON) — One person died after a suspected DUI crash on I-80 in Richmond overnight on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 2:08 a.m. on the freeway near Hilltop Drive.

A preliminary investigation suggests that two vehicles were involved: a BMW 440i and a Toyota Prius. According to CHP, a rear passenger of the Toyota was killed after the crash.

The driver of the Toyota suffered a major injury, and the BMW driver had a minor injury, authorities said. The driver of the BMW was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Investigators believe alcohol and/or drugs were a factor, CHP said. The identity of the Toyota passenger will be released by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office once the next of kin have been notified.

Lanes on I-80 were temporarily blocked but fully reopened around 5 a.m., according to CHP traffic logs.
