WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4) — A 69-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision in West Valley City Saturday night while fleeing the scene of another accident, according to West Valley City Police.

At around 7:50 p.m. on Oct. 18, a 69-year-old man was driving east on 3100 South when he rear-ended a vehicle at about 3750 West. The collision caused a domino effect, with the second vehicle crashing into a third vehicle in front.

The 69-year-old driver fled the scene, police said, driving west on 3100 South in the eastbound, opposite lanes. The man then crashed head-on into a vehicle on 3100 South.

The driver had to be extricated from his vehicle, police said, and was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Including the 69-year-old man, there were three other drivers and 10 passengers total involved in the incident. Minor injuries were reported, but only the 69-year-old man was transported from the scene.
