BATON ROUGE, La. (
Louisiana First) — Louisiana has been ranked the least safe state in America for 2025, according to a new report from WalletHub.
The personal-finance website compared all 50 states using 52 safety factors, including crime rates, job security, and the impact of natural disasters.
WalletHub said that so far this year, more than 11,000 Americans have died from gun violence, and the country saw $27 billion in climate disasters in 2024.
Louisiana ranked 50th overall, with poor scores in several key areas:
- 50th – Murders and non-negligent manslaughters per capita
- 46th – Assaults per capita
- 45th – Loss amounts from climate disasters per capita
- 50th – Job security
- 42nd – Fatal occupational injuries per 100,000 workers
- 38th – Fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles
- 37th – Bullying incidence rate
- 19th – Sex offenders per capita
- 29th – Share of uninsured population
WalletHub says the study helps highlight the challenges states face in protecting residents from both physical harm and financial insecurity.
