Around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, October 17, officers initiated a traffic stop on South Chapel Street near East Ryder Avenue for careless and reckless driving and speeding.
Police said the driver didn’t stop and officers began a pursuit, which ended when the driver crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of East 30th Street and South Chapel Street. Afterwards, suspects reportedly fired shots at officers before fleeing the scene on foot.
No officers were injured during the incident, officials said. This was an isolated incident and police say there is no threat to the public; however, there has been no word on whether any arrests have been made.
This is still an active investigation, and updates will be provided as they are released. Anyone with information should call Sergeant Watts at 704-857-2129.
