Photos: Massive turnout as Portlanders join ‘No Kings’

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Tens of thousands of Portlanders joined millions nationwide in the coordinated “No Kings” marches and rallies on Saturday.

Shortly after the marches began, the Portland Police Bureau closed Southwest Naito Parkway between Southwest Ash Street and the Morrison Bridge due to the size of the crowd exceeding the capacity of the section of Waterfront Park near Southwest Pine Street.

With signs such as “Nothing is more patriotic than protesting” or “Resist Fascism,” in many places across the United States the events looked more like a street party. There were marching bands, a huge banner with the U.S. Constitution’s “We The People” preamble that people could sign, and demonstrators wearing inflatable costumes, particularly frogs, which have emerged as a sign of resistance in Portland.
