Mother of slain Shreveport teen, Cameron Ballentine, demands justice
The 17-year-old victim was shot multiple times on August 31 in the 3300 block of Bond Drive between Roy Road and Downing Street. Witnesses told police that an unknown individual came from the rear of the residence and opened fire on Ballentine before fleeing on foot.
Following Cameron’s death, his mother, Shannon Ballentine, has relied on her faith to cope with the loss of her son and has a message regarding his passing. “As Cameron’s mother, I will not close my eyes until justice is served. That’s all I have to say. I am truly heartbroken.”
Balletine’s mother described him as hilariously funny, recalling moments that always made her laugh. For example, he would say silly things to both his sister and her. When the birds built a nest on one of his mother’s door wreaths, he said, “Momma, those birds are living the good life at your expense.” Balletine also mentioned that the last thing Cameron did to make her smile was gathering all the garbage from the bathroom and kitchen without being asked. He took the initiative to do it on his own.
