This was a chance for officers to kick back, enjoy a good meal, and get some well-deserved recognition for everything they do.
Law enforcement officers from the Shreveport Police Department, the Caddo Sheriff’s Office, the City Marshall’s Office, Louisiana State Troopers, and Federal Agencies received a free lunch.
For just ten dollars, community members also had the opportunity to buy an officer a meal. The primary sponsor, Willis Knighton Health System, matched the public’s support dollar for dollar.
The executive director for Crime Stoppers, Terry McNaight, said that hosting events like this reminds officers that the community appreciates them.
“Being an officer is a very stressful job. No way does the pay match all that they perform. So, by the community coming out and saying thank you, it just makes their life better,” said McNaight.
This event is one of the last big events we’ll see at SPD headquarters for a while, with major reconstruction on the building set to begin soon.
“It reminds me of the Last Supper. As a matter of fact, at some point or another in the very near future, within the next month, we’ll be vacating this spot. We’ll be moving to another location here in our community,” said Police Chief Wayne Smith.
