The Tri-City Prayer Initiative invited residents from Columbus, Phenix City, Fort Benning, and the surrounding area for their third annual prayer walk.
Participants from various denominations started at the Russell County Courthouse, walked along the Dillingham bridge, and returned to Phenix City to conclude the walk.
During the hike, community and church leaders led the attendees in prayer at multiple stations throughout the walk.
The different prayers focused on reforming, repairing, and healing the city so community members won’t have to experience crime and can live peaceful lives.
A member from the organization says that since the prayer walk event began in 2023, the prayers have been working.
“There have been changes in our city that have been phenomenal,” said Tri-City Prayer Initiative member Sandy Tsuruda. “And they could have only happened because of the hand of God. And so we know that we have to continue this work because it’s an honorable work and it’s a good work. And we were called to it.”
Tsuruda said she has seen an increase in police force and a decrease in crime that could only be by the hand of God. Over two hundred people participated, and she hopes the number increases each year.
