BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — October 16, 2025

Indiana University announced Thursday that it has reached an agreement with head football coach Curt Cignetti on a new eight-year contract extension worth approximately $92.8 million, keeping him in Bloomington through November 2033. The deal carries an average annual compensation of roughly $11.6 million.

IU President Pamela Whitten praised Cignetti for transforming the Hoosiers into a national contender in just two seasons.

“At Indiana University, we are committed to performing at the highest levels in everything we do, and no one has exemplified that more than Coach Cignetti,” Whitten said. “Put simply, Cig is a winner. From last year’s College Football Playoff appearance to this year’s top-three national ranking, the IU Football program’s success has been tremendous.”

Cignetti, who arrived in Bloomington in 2023, has led the Hoosiers to a 17–2 record, including an 11–1 mark in Big Ten play. He was named both National and Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2024 after guiding Indiana to its first-ever College Football Playoff berth and a runner-up finish in the Big Ten.

IU Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Dolson said the new deal underscores the university’s commitment to maintaining championship-level football.

“We are committed to investing in IU Football in such a way that we can compete at a championship level,” Dolson said. “His accomplishments during the last season and a half have been nothing short of remarkable. This is a great day for IU Football and Indiana University.”

The Hoosiers are currently 6–0 overall and 3–0 in Big Ten play, ranked No. 3 nationally — the highest ranking in program history. Indiana owns a pair of top-10 victories this season, including wins over No. 9 Illinois and No. 3 Oregon. Last weekend’s win in Eugene marked the program’s first-ever road victory against a top-five opponent.

Cignetti’s success has also ignited a surge of enthusiasm among fans. IU sold out its final four Big Ten home games in 2024 and every Big Ten game so far this season.

Indiana will look to continue its unbeaten run when it hosts Michigan State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium.
