Hospitality workers rally outside City Hall as they work under an expired contract

PHILADELPHIA (WPHL) — Philadelphia hospitality workers and members of Unite Here Local 274 rallied outside of City Hall, asking for higher wages, better healthcare, and an increase in staffing, as they continue to work under an expired contract.

This follows the release of a new report by the union, which calls on the City of Philadelphia to negotiate a new contract for its hospitality workers.

This comes as the city prepares to host several major events in 2026, including the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game, and the 250th anniversary of the United States.

According to the union, failure to address workers’ demands could lead to what it describes as a “historic disruption” to Philadelphia’s hospitality industry during that critical year.
