“First and foremost that I played with the Lord on my chest, you know, the name on my jersey and just the name Luke Miller. I felt like I wanted that to go with, you know, Christ follower, playing for the right reason and then, you know, always just hard hitter. That’s always another one,” senior safety Luke Miller said.
Yeah, he’s a hard hitter. That faith has helped bring the team closer together and is a reason why he plays the game he loves.
“My faith is a big part of what I do. It’s a big part of what I play for, like on my wrists every game, I try to write, you know, inspirational quotes or Bible verses. I try to use football as a platform to be able to share my faith and just share what I believe in,” Miller said.
Miller started playing football in fourth grade, and he comes from a football family.
“His dad is our defensive coordinator here and both kids played here, and one of them is helping us now do some filming stuff. His wife works for me in the athletic office, so you know they’re fully in on Calvary football and we’re blessed to have them here,” head coach Rodney Guin said.
“It honestly really helps me a lot because we go home and we study film together, we work up a game plan, so I feel like I’ve just grown up around the sport just my whole life, so it’s really helped me,” Miller stated.
That mentorship has turned him into a leader on this team.
“Coming into this year I talked to some coaches, I told them, you know I’m gonna do anything I can to help the team with it being my last year. So I just came out here, you know, try to step into some roles that we need to fill,” Miller said.
“He’s the leader of the defense and leader of the special teams. He just does a lot of good stuff for us and you know he’s matured every year. He’s played for us for four years, so, you know, he’s having a great senior year,” Guin said.
When his time is done as a Cavalier, he wants to be remembered as the best to do it.
“Just one of the best, intelligent, hard hitting safeties to ever come through Calvary,” Miller stated.
Miller and the Cavaliers have four games remaining in the regular season before the hunt for their second state title in three years begins.
