October 17, 2025, marks five years since the body of Mort Siwe was discovered in a wildlife management area in Columbus, with authorities still searching for answers to what happened.
As 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS previously reported, Siwe was discovered at the Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area around 9:50 a.m. on October 17, 2020. When the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they said the 20-year-old from St. Paul was unresponsive and declared dead.
A post-mortem examination uncovered that Siwe had sustained severe head trauma, with visible external injuries, indicative of a physical assault.
While the sheriff’s office said they have had several leads developed in the case, no charges have been filed.
Still, they are investigating what happened to Siwe and are asking for anyone who might have information about the case to email: ACSOColdCases@anokacountymn.gov.
Friday also marks the 1-year anniversary of the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Homicide Unit webpage.
