CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — When the Charlotte Hornets hit the court for their season tip-off against the Brooklyn Nets, fans will notice more than just the basketball. They’ll be sitting in brand new seats inside a freshly upgraded Spectrum Center.

The arena, which first opened in 2005 as Bobcats Arena, has seen several name changes over the years, eventually becoming Spectrum Center.

Now, it’s getting a major facelift, and it’s ready to show it off.

After months of construction, the $245 million renovation is complete. The project, funded by the city’s tourism tax, includes 1,400 new seats in the lower level, wider seats in the 200 section, more bathrooms and bars, and new food options for fans.

The Belk Concourse also got a big upgrade.

Behind the scenes, locker rooms have been renovated, and new tech, sound systems, and event spaces were added — all designed to enhance the fan and performer experience.

The Spectrum Center will officially reopen this Sunday with a Billie Eilish concert, and more big names are on the way, including Stevie Nicks, Tate McRae, and Lainey Wilson later this month.

Hornets Sports & Entertainment said the goal is to make every visit to the arena a memorable one, and with all the buzz around the upgrades, fans are already excited.
