TOPEKA (KSNT) – Washburn football is on a five game losing streak and looking for its first win since Aug. 30.

The 1-5 (0-4) ‘Bods are what first year head coach Zach Watkins calls a young veteran team, and said it takes experience to win in the MIAA.

“I’m seeing improvement in a lot of our players across our border, especially a lot of our young players,” said Watkins. “Our veterans are some of our better players and lead us be we are a young team with guys that are playing.”

Despite the losing record this squad is only focusing on the season one game at a time.

“A motto that we have a seven-game season, so every week we kind of view it like that,” said Junior Tight End Ty Weber. “A different mentality every week and the mentality is, this is the game that we are focused on and we are going to prepare as well as we can for this seven game season.”

Washburn is home for its next two matchups, facing the University of Central Missouri Mules this Saturday. That kick-off is set for 2 p.m. at Yager Stadium.
