Study: Austin tops list as Texas’ most affordable rental city

DALLAS (KDAF) — A recent study by CashNetUSA reveals that Austin leads Texas cities with the highest percentage of affordable rental homes, with 62.01% of rentals meeting the affordability standard.

The study analyzed rental listings across Texas to determine where residents could find housing that costs no more than 30% of their income, which is the standard definition of affordable housing.

Following Austin, Laredo has 61.27% of its rentals classified as affordable, with a monthly affordability limit of $1,176.75. Irving ranks third with 60.33% of rentals deemed affordable, having a monthly limit of $1,710.50.

Other cities with notable percentages of affordable rentals include Arlington at 59.97%, Houston at 59.23%, and Garland at 57.08%. These cities have monthly affordability limits ranging from $1,657.00 to $1,710.50.

In contrast, Frisco has the lowest percentage of affordable rentals among the listed cities, with only 33.73% of rentals meeting the affordability criteria.
