TOPEKA (KSNT) – A judge has sentenced a Topeka man for his role in a deadly 2024 shooting that claimed the life of a 22-year-old man.

A Shawnee County judge sentenced 28-year-old Kavshun Boykin to life in prison on Oct. 16 for his part in the deadly shooting of Cody Cooper last year. The judge also sentenced him to additional time of 170 months, or 14 years, for two other charges

Boykin must serve 653 months, or around 54 years, in prison before he is eligible for parole. A Shawnee County jury found Boykin guilty during a trial earlier this year.
