Anyone who typically travels along State Highway 7 in a portion of the west metro will have to use a new route for the next few days.
Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) crews closed both directions of the highway in the Minnetonka, Shorewood and Deephaven area — between Vine Hill Road and County Road 101 — on Wednesday night. That includes the section of the roadway right by Minnetonka High School.
That closure will last until 5 a.m. on Monday to allow crews to replace a failing culvert that officials say is creating a sinkhole.
MnDOT recommends the following detours for drivers:
Westbound travelers: Highway 7, to southbound I-494, to westbound Highway 5, to northbound Highway 41 to Highway 7.
Eastbound travelers: Highway 7, to southbound Highway 41, to eastbound Highway 5, to northbound Interstate 494, to Highway 7.
Additionally, Highway 7 access at Lynwood Terrace and Old Excelsior Boulevard is also closed.
