Colder air in place with scattered showers to start Thursday and dry conditions to end it
Heading into early Thursday morning, a NW flow will allow for unsettled conditions and scattered showers to stick around. The NW flow will also allow for some lake enhancement keeping wet weather churning into the early afternoon and temperatures significantly cooler than average. With the dropping temperatures also comes dropping snow levels. Snow is expected above 7000 feet with accumulations between four to eight inches expected at the highest peaks of the Wasatch and Uinta mountains.
Daytime highs will be cool again with valleys topping out in the low to mid 50s, 40s for mountain valleys, and 60s for warmer areas in southern Utah. Overnight lows will drop to the upper 30s and low 40s for the Wasatch Front, but higher terrain will see temperatures fall into the mid 20s to low 30s. Freeze alerts are in place for Castle Country, the Western Uinta Basin, and Juab/Millard Counties through 9 am Friday morning with temperatures as low as 26°.
Drier conditions will set up late Thursday, Friday and into the weekend. High pressure returns Friday with warming and drying trend meaning the upcoming weekend is looking perfect for any outdoor fall activities. Highs will be in the 60s for northern Utah and into the low to mid 70s for southern Utah. The sun will return and shine across the state in full force through the weekend, which has not been the case for the last three weekends in Northern Utah!
