Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to enforce tighter security at certain sports events

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools plan to implement additional security measures at some athletic events moving forward, school officials said Thursday.

These security measures will only be implemented for games and events designated as “High Profile with Extraordinary Circumstances.”

Games or events may be considered HP/E for many reasons, including, but not limited to: large expected crowds, previous incidents at the host facility, proximity to non-school events, or at the request of the school, district, or law enforcement.

This designation will be assigned by CMS leadership, law enforcement, and leadership from all participating schools.

If a game or event is determined to be High Profile with Extraordinary Circumstances, the following procedures may be implemented:

• No tickets will be allowed for purchase at the game site. Ticket sales will be cut off the day before the event at 2 p.m. This allows for a true estimate of a crowd size and eliminates turning patrons away at the gate in a sell-out.
• Ticket Caps. The number of available tickets will be determined in the security planning meeting.
• Additional security personnel or law enforcement
• Limited entry or exit points
• Separate concession stands
• Attendance Limitations. This will be determined during the security planning meeting. Some or all of the following limitations may be enacted:
  • No students from non-competing schools will be granted entry to the game.
  • No Senior or employee passes allowed at the gate, only tickets may grant entry
  • No one under the age of 16 (18 optional) allowed entry without an adult.
