Students at Burlington Elementary School learned how to make a fall staple, apple butter, right on the school’s front lawn! The event started bright and early with the help of volunteers.
“Kids love Apple Butter Day as well. We have over 300 kids, and all of them are going to be out stirring the kettle. They’ll get a science lesson about how canning and food preservation works,” says Principal David Ashworth.
Children also had the opportunity to hop on a hayride and visit Hatcher’s Greenhouse.

“The magic happens inside the classroom, but if we can get them out and make some core memories, we want to do that too,” says Ashworth.
Students will sell the jars of apple butter starting next week to the community.
