Happening on Oct. 25, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit agents will be stationed at Walgreens on 100 W. Judge Perez rive in Chalmette, to collect unused and expired prescription and over the counter medicines for safe disposal.
“This is a great chance for residents to responsibly dispose of old medications, keeping them out of the reach of children who might misuse them or criminals who could sell them illegally,” said St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann.
The DEA-led initiative began in 2010 and has since collected over 4.8 million pounds of prescription drugs nationwide, according to SBSO officials.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. but if you are unable to attend, the sheriff’s office has a year-round medication drop box at the substation located at 4700 Paris Road in Chalmette.
