Mississippi teen shot to death found with gun in each hand, investigators say
Ayden Reno, 16, was found shot to death on September 22, and police charged three teens with first-degree murder and one teen with accessory after the fact.
The four suspects were arrested on September 29. Lemarion Henderson and Ryan Spencer are both 18 years old, another suspect is 16 years old, and the fourth suspect is 15 years old.
On Tuesday, WREG learned that Lemarion Henderson and the 15-year-old suspect waived their right to a preliminary hearing.
Appearing in court were Ryan Spencer, 18, charged with accessory after the fact, and a 16-year-old charged with first-degree murder.
“Everyone in there can look at their child, their brother, I can’t look at mine,” said Kortney Jones, mother of Ayden Reno.
A relative of Spencer was shocked by the charges against her cousin.
“I don’t believe there’s anything to it on his behalf. He just got caught up in the mix, wrong place at the wrong time,” said Valeria Angeletti, cousin of Ryan Spencer.
During testimony on Tuesday, investigators revealed shell casings from a 40 caliber handgun that were found at the crime scene, as well as shell casings from another weapon.
Investigators also said the suspects were together before Reno’s death.
It is alleged that Reno was attempting to take a weapon from one of the suspects when shots were fired. Investigators stated Reno had a weapon in each hand when he was found.
“We’re holding up cause God gets the last say, we don’t have no power. My son shouldn’t have done what he did, but he didn’t deserve to die. God gets the last say,” said Jones, mother of Ayden Reno.
The attorney for the 16-year-old charged said his client acted in self-defense.
“No prior criminal history, and he’s being accused of this murder on very, very scant evidence, and so my concern is just the manner in which the police handled the investigation,” said TreMarcus Roseman, the attorney representing the 16-year-old charged with first-degree murder.
Ryan Spencer is out on bond, and the other suspects have bonds set ranging from $100,000 to $125,000.
All four suspects will be bound over to the grand jury.
