Interstate work leads to ramp, lane closures in Indianapolis
The Indiana Department of Transportation has several projects in the works, including one that will affect weekend travel on I-70 and another that will lead to overnight restrictions on I-65.
Starting on Friday night, INDOT will repair barrier walls along I-70 on the east side.
As a result, the I-70 westbound ramp to I-465 southbound will be closed from around 9 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 17) through 6 a.m. on Monday (Oct. 20).
One left lane on I-70 westbound will also close, as will the two left lanes of I-70 eastbound near the interchange. The closures will run from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday (Oct. 17) and Sunday (Oct. 19).
According to INDOT, the barrier walls are in need of repair after being struck multiple times in the last few weeks.
The recommended detour is I-465 northbound to the U.S. 36 (Pendleton Pike) interchange to I-465 southbound.
Maintenance work will lead to overnight closures on I-65 through downtown Indianapolis. The work started Tuesday night, closing I-65 northbound between Michigan Street and St. Clair Street.
Additional closures are planned this week:
INDOT said the work schedules are weather-dependent and could shift based on the conditions outside. Drivers should slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
