Family members share Diane Keaton's cause of death
In a statement to People magazine, Keaton’s family said they “are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on Oct. 11.”
The actress’ career spanned more than five decades and was marked by iconic roles in films like “The Godfather,” “Annie Hall,” and “Father of the Bride.”
A Los Angeles native, Keaton rose to fame in the 1970s with her portrayal of Kay Adams in “The Godfather” trilogy and later earned an Academy Award for Best Actress in Woody Allen’s “Annie Hall.” Known for her distinct voice, wit and signature menswear-inspired style, she became one of Hollywood’s most recognizable leading women.
Her long career included starring roles in “The First Wives Club,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” “Baby Boom” and the “Book Club” films, among many others. She also directed and produced several projects and remained a fixture on social media, often sharing candid reflections with fans.
She is survived by her two children, Dexter and Duke.
In their statement, family members added that donations to local food banks or animal shelters would be a special tribute to Keaton, who was passionate about supporting the unhoused and causes surrounding animal welfare.
