Interim Jackson Police Chief and Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said someone fired shots into a gray Honda SUV on Cynthia Road near Highway 49 around 4:30 p.m. on October 12, 2025. The vehicle was occupied by a male driver, a female front passenger and a six-year-old child in the back seat.
Jones said the female passenger was shot in the head, and the driver proceeded to the nearby Sprint Mart where police were called. The suspects are believed to be in a black passenger car with a Louisiana license plate. The motive for the shooting is unknown.
The injured victim, who was identified as 33-year-old Amelia Neal, was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Police said Neal died from her injuries on October 13, 2025.
